Ad layouts represent the way advertisers' creatives will be displayed in your ad placements. By defining the layouts, you will automate the process of ad insertions where each creative will be matched to the layout format.
First, locate the Layouts under the Supply section.
To create your first layout, click the Create new layout button in the top right corner.
The first thing you should do when setting up a new layout is to name it and assign it to one (or multiple) teams you can choose from the dropdown menu.
IMPORTANT: Teams field is ONLY VISIBLE if your account has multiple teams, or if a certain user is a part of more than one team. If you belong to a single team, that team will be assigned to the layout automatically.
You can add as many teams as you need access to this type of layout.
This part of the layout settings is the same for any type of layout. From this point onwards, you can decide what type of layout you wish to create.
Type of Layouts
Emperor offers a wide range of possibilities for creating ad layouts:
- Landscape Display ad
- Responsive Display ad
- Native Landscape ad
- Responsive and Native ad
- Native and Display Landscape ad
- Responsive, Native, and Display ad
Landscape Display Layouts
If you only want a simple Landscape Display ad, the procedure is simple: all you have to do is select the dimensions of the landscape display ads you allow (from a dropdown menu) and click Create button.
Please note that, even though you can create simple landscape layouts, without the responsive option, you cannot create only Portrait layouts.
If you attempt to set only Portrait sizes for your layout, you will receive an error message asking you to define at least one Landscape format.
Simple Responsive Display Layouts
To create a responsive design, make sure to select at least two, or a whole variety of formats (from the dropdown menu) for both Landscape and Portrait display creative sizes.
Click Create and you have your first responsive layout all ready to receive advertisers creatives.
Simple Native Landscape ad
With Emperor, you can also create native layouts for Landscape resolution in emails.
Pay attention that we created a simple, native layout designed only for the landscape size of creatives. As soon as we’ve allowed native creative sizes, a preview has been opened on the left side of the screen.
Furthermore, a Native layout design studio has become available to you and can be accessed by simply scrolling down.
Native layout design studio has a variety of options for customization, and we will get back to that in the sections below.
But first, let us tell you about the other layout possibilities in Emperor.
Responsive and Native ad
Just as you can create a simple landscape native layout, you can expand the power of this layout by making it responsive. All you need to do is select Portrait size for this type of ad placements.
Note that a new preview for the portrait will be shown on the left side under the landscape preview.
With native sizes, just as with display sizes, it is not possible to create ad placements just for portrait sizes. If you attempt to create a native portrait ad, you will be requested to add a native landscape size as well.
Native and Display Landscape ad
If you define both Display and Native creative sizes, you will allow for both types of creatives to deliver on this layout. This means that the advertisers can choose this layout regardless whether their line items are designed to be native or display.
This option is a safe bet for all advertisers who only wish to be opened via desktop or laptop devices, or for those ads who are not performing so well when presented in portrait sizes.
Responsive, Native, and Display ad
Finally, you can create a layout that covers it all:
- Multiple display sizes
- Responsive display
- Native creative sizes
- Native and responsive creative sizes.
This type of layout is designed for your prime spot for selling ads – the spot that suits a diverse group of advertisers, and the spot you wish to have booked at all times.
Here you can play with different formats and allow responsiveness for display or native ads or both.
For native ad formats, only one ad size is allowed.
