So, you have a new line item? Congrats!
Let’s see what the line item dashboard looks like, before we start adding new creatives to the campaigns.
First of all, under the line item name, you will see a list of key information defining this line item. This information includes the number of active creatives, start and end date of the entire campaign, the type of the layout paired with the line item (display or native), as well as the volume and amount limitations for this line item (if they are set).
Secondly, the blue information box in the top right corner tells you which creative size or sizes are needed for the selected inventory of this line item. In our case, there are four mandatory landscape sizes and one optional portrait sizes selected for this line item.
In case you see that there is something missing, or the line item settings are not as you wanted them to be, you can always go back and edit the line item before adding creatives. Next to the line item name, you will find the blue button Edit line item that guides you back to the line item settings.
Finally, in the top navigation bar you will always be able to orientate where you are within the Emperor, and to quickly jump from one section to the other.
Now let’s explore two different scenarios for adding creatives to your line item:
- Adding creatives to display format
- Adding creatives to native format
Pay attention to the fact that the dashboard for adding creatives varies based on the line item type.
Adding creatives to display format line items
To ad creatives and kick off the ad campaigns within your newsletters, go to Advertisers and select the advertiser you want to manage. Then go to the order and select the line item from the list where you want to add creatives.
For example, Advertisers > Eucerin > Cosmetics Products 2025 > Women hand creme promo.
If you have multiple line items within the order, you can easily find the ones without added creatives by entering the menu item No active creatives.
To add your first creative, click the Create new creative purple button in the top right corner, or in the middle of the empty line item dashboard.
First thing first, when you create a new creative you need to name it. Name the creative in a way that is self-explanatory, so each member of the team finds it easy to understand what this creative contains.
Secondly, enter a Landing page URL where this ad is supposed to take the viewer. This URL is the line item creative’s landing page. The creatives initially use MACROS to include additional information within the call, but you can override it per creative with a specific click URL.
IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to insert the protocol (http:// or https://).
Standard MACROS that are used within Emperor are
https://example.com?campaign_id=[CAMPAIGN_ID]&user_id=[USER_ID]×tamp=[TIMESTAMP]
This is where you will use the Reference ID (as established in the Advertiser, Order, Line Item, Brand, and Newsletter).
IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to test the links for each creative before publishing the campaign, to make sure everything works and all data is easy to read.
Pay attention that the Landing page URL textbox only accepts valid URLs. Therefore, any extra spaces will not be allowed in order to proceed with creating the creative.
In order to enable the advertiser’s third-party software to track impressions and clicks of their ads, Emperor allows for external tracking pixels for both metrics.
You will find the options to add tracking pixels by clicking on the buttons Add external impression tracking pixel and Add external click tracking pixel.
In case the advertiser uses two third-party software to track impressions or clicks, you can add up to two pixels per metric. Also, if you are using one pixel to track the campaigns with another tool used for analytics, you can add your pixel and an advertiser pixel just the same.
Due to increased load time, Emperor only allows two pixels for impressions and two for clicks. Once you add two textboxes to insert the pixes, you will see that the buttons Add external impression tracking pixel and Add external click tracking pixel will become inactive.
The pixel is entered within the textbox for impressions or clicks. If you wish to remove a pixel or to remove an empty textbox you have opened by mistake, you can always click the gray X button on the left side of the textbox.
Add an image to your creative in display format
Before you add an image to your creative, make sure to prepare the images of the right size or sizes if you wish to include multiple image sizes. In the blue information box, you will find the details of the landscape sizes (which is mandatory in our example), and portrait sizes (which we have set to be optional).
To choose the size of this creative, open the dropdown menu under Size, and simply click on the dimensions you want.
Next, you should choose the image source. You can upload a prepared image, pull an image from an external link, open the Emperor image editor, or select the waiting option if you don’t have a ready-image just yet.
Choose the desired option by selecting the radio button in front of the option name
If you opt to upload an image, bare in mind the allowed formats are .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif. Moreover, the maximum file size cannot exceed 500KB, while the dimensions of the image must match the selected creative size (if it doesn’t, you will receive an Error message requesting for you to resize the image to fit).
To add an image, drop a file to the dashboard or click on the camera icon to open a browser and find the right file on your computer. Once added, you will see the preview in the dashboard to ensure it is the right image you wanted.
If you decide to insert the image by using the external link, an External link textbox will appear for you to paste the link of the image.
Bare in mind that only valid links will be accepted, so make sure to use the protocol http:// or https://, and double-check that you have the right link.
If your images need to be worked on, adjusted, or written on, you can select the Image editor. Emperor incorporates a sophisticated image editing solution that is much like the Microsoft Word or Google Docs that you are already used to.
When you select the Image editor option, you also need to click on the Open image editor button to open our software for adjusting your ads within Emperor. Our powerful tiny integrations enables direct editing without needing an external software.
First thing first, you can insert an image to edit, or make a text-only ad. The icon for inserting images is located in the top right corner of the editing tool.

When it comes to the other options available, you have the standard dropdown menus to choose the Font, Paragraph, or Heading, and the size of the text in pt.
Furthermore, you can choose the text color as well as the color of the background (the highlight function).
As usual, your text can be either Italic, Bold, or striketrough.
The format (left, center, right, justified) and the spacing between rows can be selected from the representative dropdown menus, while the alignment to the left or right is selective from the top bar. Of course, one of the options in the menu is to clear formatting marked with the symbol Ix.
Another functionality available within tiny on Emperor is to set up a table and format it with similar options you know from Word-like software. Right next to the Table functionality is the Vertical Alignment button for when you need it.
And, if you are more comfortable with code editing or you have a source code for your creatives to copy-paste, you can open the Source code editor.
Source code is written in HTML, with <p> for paragraph, and other tags you should be familiar with to editi it efficiently.
Finally, if you are satisfied with the ad you have created, you can hit the Save as new template button on the bottom right corner. This step will help you with the next creatives, where you can opt to load an existing template by selecting the Load template button on the bottom left corner.
Besides that, you may click Save for the current changes on your creative, or Exit without saving the recent changes.
One last option for selecting the image source for your creative is Waiting, which you should use if you don’t have a creative just yet. Not having a creative will prevent all respective line items and orders from delivering, since they don’t have what to deliver just yet. Those items and orders will be located in the Draft menu until you add the face to your creatives.
Advanced settings
There is a set of advanced settings available for each creative. When you expand them, you will see additional settings that apply on the creative delivery dates. If you don’t make any changes, the creatives will deliver as the line item’s delivery dates anticipate.
If you wish to make this creative an exception, turn on the Override the line item’s delivery dates for this creative switch to enable calendar settings.
Expand the calendar by clicking on the calendar icon next to the Star date and time or End date and time. Bare in mind when choosing the new dates and time that the same logic applies as before – the end date and time for this creative delivery cannot be sooner than the start date and time. Just the same, the start date cannot be sooner than the present date.
Besides opening the calendar view, you can also enter the numerical value for date and time manually, by clicking on the date format textbox and rewriting the existing values.
Other settings you can further adjust are the days of the week for which you wish this creative to deliver. Simply check or uncheck the checkboxes next to the day’s name to fine-tune these settings to your preference.
The time of the delivery can also be adjusted by clicking on the numerical value within the time format textboxes and rewriting the default time settings.
Once you are done setting up your creative, click the purple Create button in the bottom right corner. At the same time, you have the Cancel button available right next to it, in case you are not satisfied with the creative you have made.
Adding creatives to native format line items
To add creatives and kick off the ad campaigns within your newsletters, go to Advertisers and select the advertiser you want to manage. Then go to the order and select the line item from the list where you want to add creatives.
For example, Advertisers > Eucerin > Cosmetics Products 2025 > Women hand creme promo.

Add an image to your creative in native format
Before you add an image to your creative, make sure to prepare the images of the right size or sizes if you wish to include multiple image sizes. In the blue information box, you will find the details of the landscape sizes (which is mandatory in our example), and portrait sizes (which we have set to be optional).
To choose the size of this creative, open the dropdown menu under Size, and simply click on the dimensions you want. In the blue information box on top, you can read the sizes that are mandatory and optional for this native creative.
Moreover, you can select multiple sizes for your native creatives, meaning you are allowed to create a bulk of creatives for the same Line Item.
Next, you should choose the image source.
First, you can upload the image. Acceptable formats are .jpeg, .jpg, .png, and .gif. The maximum file size allowed is 500kb. You can either drag and drop the file to Emperor, or open a file browser and find the image you need.
Secondly, your ad can be a text-only ad. In that case, select the Text only option and fill in the rest of the settings options (Native settings we will cover further down this article).
And, finally, you have the Waiting option if your creative is pending. Pay attention that, in this case, the line items and orders that use this creative will not deliver until you give them something to deliver. They will all be marked as Drafts.
Native settings
Whether your ads include an image or not, native ads offer the option of writing specific text to match your native ad needs. You can add the following fields:
- Headline
- Body text
- Ad icon
- CTA.
