Sponsored line items with Emperor

Sponsorships are special priority categories reserved for the line items that take the highest possible priority. In Emperor, there are two types of sponsorships – “simple” and date-based sponsorships.

Simple sponsorships

The so-called “simple” sponsorships work like this: Set up these sponsorships by setting the priority at 10 (the highest priority), and turning on the Forced switch.

These line items will deliver on every impression, but they will obey the settings of the:

  1. Budget – they will not spend more than the set limit;
  2. Priority – in this case, the priority is the highest: 10;
  3. Targeting – it will only deliver to the set target, and will not cross the set borders for the audience receiving the ads.

Date-based sponsorships

Date-based sponsorships are available in your line item only if you have set together the CS and ESP date variables. Then, the Sponsorship switch will be available under the Budget settings section when you create a new line item. Once turned on, there will be an extra variable in the tag for ESP related to this line item.

Unlike simple sponsorships, date-based sponsorships are running indefinitely, so to speak. In other words, even if the line item status is delivery completed, Emperor system is smart enough to keep the line item “delivering” on your placement. For the simple sponsorships line items, set on priority 10 and forced, once they have delivery completed status, they stop delivering

The Date-Based Sponsorship is running, even after it has status “delivery completed”, until you make the line item inactive or archive it in the Emperor UI. Furthermore, the sponsored line item runs until the date variable receives the information from the ESP (for example, until you change the date for this set of ads in your Mailchimp).

How do I turn on the sponsorship switch?

Turning on the sponsorship switch will override the priority levels and deliver the line item on every impression. Sponsored line items are also delivered regardless of the budget limit.

You can set a line item as sponsored during the creation of the line item. In the Budget settings section, you will find the Sponsorship switch.

By turning on the Sponsorship switch, all other fields in the Budget and Priority section will be locked for editing. The priority will automatically be forced, and the ads will deliver upon every impression.

IMPORTANT: Once you set up a sponsored line item, you cannot change these settings later on. If you wish for the line item to stop delivering, go to settings and set it as Inactive.
